Part 1: Website Care: A Step-by-Step Guide

Part 2. Marketing Your Website After Launch

Part 1. Website Care & Launch Preparation: A Step-by-Step Guide

Website Maintenance & Ongoing Care

Your website is live — and that’s a big deal! 🎉 This isn’t just a technical achievement; it’s a huge leap forward for your business, brand, or passion project. You’ve poured in the hours, creativity, and dedication, and now you’ve got something to show the world.

But here’s the thing — your new site is just the beginning. Think of it like opening the doors to a beautiful new shop. The grand opening is exciting, but keeping people coming back takes care, consistency, and a little ongoing love. Your website is a living, breathing extension of your business. It needs regular updates, fresh content, and routine maintenance to keep it secure, visible in search engines, and engaging for every visitor who stops by. By giving it consistent attention, you’re not just “keeping it running” — you’re protecting your investment, boosting your visibility, and keeping your audience excited to connect with you.

The steps below will show you how to keep your site performing at its best, so it can work hard for you, bring in more visitors, and help your business grow for years to come.

Launch and Promote

The launch of your new website is a celebration, a marketing opportunity, and a powerful way to invite people to see what you have to offer. Too often, business owners quietly publish their site and move on. But here’s the truth: if no one knows it exists, it can’t do its job. Launching and promoting your site ensures you get the visibility you deserve, connects you with potential customers, and helps you make a memorable first impression.  [… Learn More]

Add Fresh Content Regularly

Publishing new blog posts, articles, or updated service information boosts your site’s search engine visibility. Search engines prioritize active websites, and fresh content keeps visitors coming back. It’s also a great way to build authority in your industry. Keep it fast.  Fast-loading websites improve the user experience and rank higher on Google. Compress your new article post images and remove unnecessary scripts or plugins to keep your site running quickly. [… Learn More]

Improve Your Website’s SEO

Made to be Unique includes light SEO work with every website build—such as basic keyword placement, clean coding, and mobile-friendly design—but there’s still more that can be done to strengthen a site’s visibility in search engines. This next level of optimization is an additional service available for clients who want to go further. It involves using strong, audience-focused keywords in page titles, headings, and body text; crafting keyword-rich meta titles and short meta descriptions for each page; and adding image alt tags so Google understands the visuals. Results can also be improved by creating internal links between related pages, building quality backlinks from reputable sites, and ensuring the site stays fast, fresh, and regularly updated. These steps work together to help more potential customers discover the business online.  [… Learn More]

Create and Build a Follower Email List

Add an email sign-up form to your site if you haven’t already, and offer something valuable (a discount, free guide, or checklist) in exchange for subscriptions. Email marketing allows you to connect directly with potential customers without relying on social media algorithms. Some email campaign platforms include MailChimp & Constant Contact. [… Learn More]

Set Up Analytics

Install tools like Google Analytics to track visitor behavior, traffic sources, and conversions. This information helps you make informed decisions about your content and marketing efforts. Ongoing maintenance is key to a healthy website. Installing analytics tools like Google Analytics is one of the most important steps for understanding your audience, tracking website performance, and improving your marketing efforts. Analytics give you concrete data about visitor behavior, traffic sources, and conversion rates—helping you make informed, strategic decisions instead of relying on guesswork. Without analytics, you’re essentially flying blind when it comes to optimizing your content and marketing campaigns. [… Learn More]

Back Up Your Website

Your website is more than just a digital storefront — it’s the heart of your online presence, a tool for attracting customers, and often a major source of income. But like any important asset, it’s vulnerable. Server crashes, hacking attempts, malware, and even simple human errors can cause data loss or downtime. Without a reliable backup, restoring your site can be time-consuming, expensive, or in some cases, impossible. By setting up regular backups, you give yourself peace of mind knowing that your hard work, content, and design are safe and can be restored in just a few clicks. [… Learn More]

Keep Your Website Updated

Regularly updating your website’s theme and plugins is crucial for security and performance. Outdated software can make your site vulnerable to hackers, slow loading times, and technical errors. By staying up to date, you protect your investment and ensure everything runs smoothly. Your website should look great and function well on desktops, tablets, and smartphones. Test your site regularly on different devices and browsers to make sure it stays user-friendly for everyone.  Ensure every link works correctly and directs visitors to the intended pages. Broken links can frustrate users and harm your search engine rankings. Check menus, buttons, and internal and external links.  If you don’t have time to handle updates yourself, Made to be Unique offers ongoing website maintenance — contact Crystal for a quote. Add a Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business)

After your website goes live, another smart move is setting up a free Google Business Profile. It acts like your digital storefront on Google Search and Maps. You’ll add your business name, hours, website link, location or service area, and contact info so folks nearby can find you—and call or visit easily. Upload a photo or two, post updates or special offers, and encourage customers to leave reviews—and be sure to respond to them! A polished, active listing not only builds trust but also helps your business show up higher in local searches, bringing more people right to your site or front door. [… Learn More]

Part 2. Marketing Your Website After Launch

Congratulations! Your new website is live. This is a huge step for your business — but it’s only the beginning. Think of your website as a beautiful storefront: it looks amazing, but unless people know it’s there, it won’t bring in customers. That’s where ongoing marketing comes in and the real work begins — getting people to visit, engage, and take action. Here’s a step-by-step marketing plan you can follow (or have us manage for you) to start building visibility and attracting customers.

You can do these steps yourself, or Made to be Unique can handle them for you so you can focus on running your business.

1. Claim Your Digital Real Estate

Before marketing begins, make sure you own your brand name online. That means setting up professional accounts on all major platforms — even if you don’t plan to post on all of them right away. This prevents others from taking your name and gives you flexibility for future growth.

  • Facebook – Create a Business Page.
  • X (Twitter) – Sign up at x.com with your business email.
  • Instagram – Create a business profile to connect visually with customers.
  • YouTube – Perfect for video tutorials, introductions, and product demos.
  • LinkedIn – Ideal for professional networking and B2B marketing.
  • Google Business Profile – Claim at Google Business for local search visibility.

Tip: Use the same logo, colors, and bio across every platform for brand consistency.

2. Set Up Business Pages & Profiles

For each platform:

  1. Use your business name (avoid nicknames or abbreviations unless they are your official brand).
  2. Upload your logo as the profile picture, or a professional headshot if you are the brand.
  3. Choose a high-quality cover/banner image that reflects your business.
  4. Fill in your bio/about section with:
    • What you do
    • Who you serve
    • Your website link
    • Your contact information
  5. Link all profiles back to your website.

Every post you make should include a link to your website — this is how you turn social followers into customers.

3. Invite Your Marketer as an Admin

If you’d like Made to Be Unique to manage your social media, add us as an admin so we can post, optimize, and monitor results for you.

Steps to add an admin:

  • Facebook: Settings → Page Roles → Assign New Page Role → Enter our email → Select “Admin”.
  • X: Share login credentials or set up TweetDeck access.
  • YouTube: YouTube Studio → Settings → Permissions → Invite.
  • LinkedIn: Company Page → Admin Tools → Manage Admins → Add Admin.
  • Google Business Profile: Go to “Users” → Invite new user → Choose “Manager” role.

4. Find & Reach Your Target Market

Identify your ideal customer and go where they are. Join groups, use hashtags, share helpful content, and interact directly. This builds trust and awareness.

Before posting, identify your ideal customer:

  • What problem do they need solved?
  • Where do they spend time online?
  • What content do they engage with?

Facebook: Join industry or local community groups, run targeted ads.
Instagram: Post visually appealing content with relevant hashtags.
X: Join trending conversations in your niche.
YouTube: Create videos that answer your customers’ most common questions.
LinkedIn: Share tips, articles, and network with potential clients.
Google Business Profile: Post weekly updates and encourage reviews.

5. Post with Purpose

For every post, include:

  • A helpful, inspiring, or engaging message.
  • A direct link to your website.
  • Relevant hashtags (3–10) to increase visibility.

Hashtag Examples: #SmallBusiness #YourIndustryKeyword #LocalBusiness #Tips #Inspiration #HowTo #YourCity

Why hashtags and keywords matter: They make your content discoverable. Think of them like “search terms” that help new customers find you.

6. Announce Your Launch

Get the word out about your new site:

  • Email your current customers with a link to your website.
  • Post on all social platforms.
  • Ask friends and family to share your announcement.
  • Consider running a small giveaway or promotion to encourage visits.

7. Track & Adjust

Monitor your results using:

  • Google Analytics – Track website visitors, popular pages, and referral sources.
  • Social Media Insights – See which posts get the most engagement.

Over time, focus more on what works and refine your strategy.

9. Be Patient & Consistent

Social media and online marketing are long-term strategies. Results often take 3–6 months or more. It’s easy work, but very tedious, which is why marketing companies charge for their time and expertise.  Stay consistent with posting and engagement, and over time, your audience will grow.
