What You Can Expect to Receive
Here at Made To Be Unique, we have fine tuned the process that will guarantee you get the most out of our Children’s Book Illustration Services. You can expect to receive a custom illustration, made specifically for your book in the style of your choosing. There are many kinds of illustrations to choose from, all of which can be customized to fit your children’s book. We provide services for the following illustrations:
What is the Process?
Introductions and Overview
Introductions are made between the illustration and client. After which the manuscript is discussed between the two. Amount of pages, pricing, character descriptions, and the timeline of the project will most likely be discussed.
Character Development
In this stage, the illustrator sketches out a the main character/characters of the book. The client is then able to request any any changes early on before the actual book illustrations are started.
Storyboard and Descriptions
Here, the client and illustrator will go over each page and plan out the illustrations. If the client prefers to be involved as little as possible, this needs to be made clear. Once the storyboard is accepted the illustrator will move on to the next stage.
Sketches
The illustrator will proceed to create detailed sketches of the desired illustrations. They will be gone over with the client to before they are turned into official illustrations.
Final Illustrations
The illustrator, once the sketches have been confirmed, will then turn them into official illustrations. In this stage, the client can request a limited amount of revisions (depending on the package they choose). It is advised that the revisions be done in the stages beforehand. Once the final payment is received, the client will then receive all the AI, PS, JPEG and PNG files.
Extra Optional Pages
This stage depends on what package the client chooses. About the Author, Acknowledgments, and other additional pages should be discussed in the “Introductions and Overview” Stage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Characters can be anyone or anything! It doesn’t have to be a person, it can be a little mouse, a roaring lion, or a wrench in a toolbox. As long as it is personified, it is seen as a Character. If your main character (for example, a mouse) is holding a piece of cheese, the cheese is not seen as a character, but merely an object. Details and limitations on objects varies depending on the package.
This depends on how involved you want to be! Here at Made To Be Unique, we strive to make complex situations easy to understand. If your strengths are in writing or other incredible skills, but you prefer to keep the illustrating to us, then all you have to do is let us know in the beginning stages and we will be more than happy to work out a package that suits your needs!
We recommend you choosing a package after the final manuscript has been written and finalized. Developing characters before the final version of the book can lead to problems and character conflict. But, if you are interested in writing your book based on the artwork, then all we need to get started are some detailed character descriptions and other basic information such as the number of spreads.
We strive to help our clients feel comfortable and understood. If you decide you want to keep the process of your children’s book illustrations private, then rest assured, we will support you!
This depends on how big or small your book is. It could take two weeks to several months to illustrate a children’s book. This is usually discussed during the beginning stages of illustrating the book.
We can providing printing services but typically we offer lower rates for our graphic design packages that do not include printing, shipping and handling fees. Most of our clients use Vista Print or their local print shop to keep the total cost down. Please contact us if you would like a quote for custom graphic design packages that includes print and shipping rates.
